Yes, it is time for yet another round with Djangos.com (Djangomusic). Just to refresh everyone’s memory, Djangos is a chain of digital media stores, mainly situated on the american west coast. Like in Portland, Seattle, LA and San Diego. Anyway, they specialize in used and second hand items of all sorts. I am of course mostly interested in their assortment of used DVDs.
If anyone remembers, Djangos changed their shipping policy earlier this year. In the past they had a standing offer for free international shipping above $50. An additionally there were all kinds of coupons and special offers floating around. This changed however, the coupons virtually disappeared and shipping charges were standardized. International orders became impossible.
I know this is a little late, but Djangos is having a special this week, giving free shipping to all orders above $50 once again. Just like the good old days.
I have browsed through the list of used dvd items and placed an order for the following titles:
Soldier $10.99
Logan’s Run $8.49
Mortal Kombat $2.99 (note: non-anamorphic but cheap! :))
Demolition Man $2.99 ![]()
Leviathan $8.99
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within $11.99
Escaflowne $14.99 (I thus voided my order at DVDSoon)
Comments on the titles: A little on the cheesy side, I know. And 100% sci-fi
For a sci-fi freak I think that most titles speak for themselves. Demolition Man and Mortal Kombat for $2.99 each is a good deal, no matter what people think of the movies. And they are underrated if you ask me.
Escaflowne is a bet since I already am aware of the faulty discs in circulation. Djangos must surely be aware of this as well, I mean, they do sell the new product as well as the limited edition. They have always been very helpful in the past and I am sure that this eventuality will be no different. I’m holding my fingers crossed for a working product though.
Final Fantasy wasn’t that much cheaper but I just felt that I needed to have this one. It is probably just the 1-disc edition but who cares, the movie is the important thing right? Also I’m hoping that Logan’s Run will be the MGM non-snapper version.
Every title has been through the following databases: Dvdpricesearch (in order to establish if they price is acceptable), Dvdcompare.org.uk (comparing regional differences) and IMDB (a complementary view on DVD tech. details and a general quality of the movie). Yeah, I know, it takes ages for a neat-freak like myself to order DVDs, especially when doing it backward, not knowing if it is a good deal or not. Most titles were a steal however, at least considering that I wont have to pay for shipping. The physical quality of used items is generally very good. If anything is damaged upon arrival, it is my experience that it is in fact the USPS or Swedish Posten AB that have inflicted the damage. Can anyone say ‘bulk mail’?
A note on customs: I’ve never had any problems before, but then again it was almost a year since I last ordered anything from Djangos. The fascists at the swedish customs/postal office at Arlanda airport seem to have gone a little more gestapo since then so who knows?
In favor of Djangos I can say this: They ship items individually and this greatly reduces the risk of detection. The value of each item is low and it is after all a used product. Also, I assume that not many people have ever heard of Djangos, let alone ordered from them so customs may not be aware of what to look for.
