What is brewing on the dvd release and wish lists anyway? Well, not so much if you’re a scifi-freak actually. Here is what I’m looking forward to in terms of new releases:
Spider-Man : Special Edition … Out: 1/11
Comments: I never saw this one in the cinema. Too bad. I know some people have bashed the R1 release and that it in fact has a little lower bitrate due to the amount of extras on the disc. On the other hand I have seen plenty of reviewers who have been perfectly happy with the release so ..
Preorder: Yes, DVDSoon. NOW SHIPPING!
Red Dwarf - Season 1 … Out: 4/11
Comments: A must have. It’s a pity it was shot in full frame though. I am a bit picky with that sort of thing even if the series is really great. Witty BritCom at its best. Season 2 will follow in February or March.
Preorder: Not yet, but it’s a R2 release so it shouldn’t be too hard.
LOTR:Extended … Out: 12/11
Comments: There was really no point getting the standard edition since we all knew this one was coming. A 30 min longer cut. Now, try watching that without taking a break to eat or go to the bathroom. Enough said.
Preorder: Not yet, but most likely to be from DVDSoon even though they have been heaving the price lately. I should have preordered the damn box a month ago.
That’s it basically. Preorder hints of the month. I also saw that DVDSoon is selling Last of the Mohicans for only Can$16.98+shipping. That is a bargain as it is the rereleased anamorphic DTS directors cut version. Still, it pisses me off that Michael Mann removed Clannad from the soundtrack. Fans of the movie seem not at all so excited about the new cut. One reviewer wrote that it now contains “ .. more running”. I think that both versions would have been nice, either as seemless branching or as separate discs.
And furthermore, while I am on the subject, the media list is still not updated. Why? Because it really sucks. I really need to solve this. Just as I need to track preorders and wishlists online. But the dvd tracker is first priority.
