Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse. And then the secondary harddrive collapses. I have had this 40GB IBM 60GXP for like 10 months so you can understand that I am somewhat surprised.
Most of the data on the device was salvaged and the primary damage consisted of an array of bad clusters. After running the IBM DFT and trying to mask these clusters, the drive was simply diagnosed as defective. I have no idea if the tool was actually able to repair (or should I say mask) the damage. Since the device is still covered by manufacturers warranty this is really no problem, but it is annoying and will take a while to remedy. 14 working days to be precise. Also, the unit has to be sent to the god damn Netherlands in a special package that is so complicated and strict that I’m getting a headache. I don’t need all these problems …
