Another cultural quirk is over. For every passing year I feel less interested in these shallow excuses for escaping reality. I suppose I should be glad when something like this turns up since I am all for escaping reality. But no, I am not.
I suppose it is the predictability of the event. And that social events require planning. Reality escape for me is wandering through dark forests or enjoying computer simulations. Both are, as you probably guessed, solitary. And they require a minimum of preparations.
Change doesn’t come over night, or because you made some stupid new years vow. Humans are fallible just as anything else in nature and this weakness is something that we try hide by making up this type of tradition. Just so that we can pretend that a new year means that we’re off to a fresh start. It’s a shame that most people can’t control their emotions better.
