It’s certainly a dream come true. Call me petty if you’d like but this means a lot. It’s like a silent acknowledgment after years of enduring modem slavery. I would like to scream …

So what does broadband mean to me? A lot actually. Not only can I finally keep the system up to date with service packs that were otherwise out of my reach, I can also take up an old hobby of mine – online gaming. I was quite the master of Quake once even if it seems like another lifetime now as I look back.
Broadband isn’t just about the bandwidth though. The fact that it’s flatrate opens up a lot of possibilities. The DSL bandwidth itself isn’t all that impressive but it’s sufficient for most applications. Flatrate on the other hand provides endless applications that were not available for me in the past.
I can expand and move certain parts of this webpage to a private server. I can enter into or even host massive online multiplayer games. I will be able to access the system when I am away to control physical parameters of the building (future project), transfer documents to printers at the university, stream music while I work elsewhere and share collections with like-minded.
Or take something simple like media libraries. Being access band data in Winamp or have Mediascraper catalogue the DVD collection. And Internet audio/video conferences or telephony. Not to mention setting up the worlds most original webcam.
Last but not least I can set ICQ to away mode, write a stupid message that no one will ever read and just leave the damn thing running. The possibilities are endless.
One of the biggest changes is probably being able to use the phone
. So, anyone who has tried to call me in like the last eight years or so – pick up the phone and please try again!
