IKEA final (?) edit

Did I mention that I’m a big fan of IKEA furniture? Yeah, I probably did. And it’s not just because I’m Swedish. Trust me, IKEA is just as despised here as anywhere else. At least by some ppl. Maybe it just isn’t classy enough for them, or maybe they just want to be special in not shopping where everyone else is shopping. Subcultures versus mainstream and a fear of being categorized. Typical cultural hegemony.
But IKEA is hard to beat in my book. The prices kick ass and they absorb many of the best (mostly) national designers in order to ensure fresh products every year. Plus they never fear trying new concepts. And they have in recent years expanded their product line to include (among other things) complete kitchen and office assortment, live green plants, and tons of decorative objects. IKEA is so much more than cheap and boring furniture. Really.

Lets cut to the chase, here is what I purchased during phase one:

BENNORADAR - hat and coat stand
+ a few other small items

And this is what I have in mind for phase two:

POÄNGBILLY
ÄPPLARÖ - flower bench
+ a new bed and small items

WHAT HAPPENED? As usual, not everything you want is in stock. That combined with my ambivalence are the reasons why there even is a phase two. I’ll check back in a month or so to see what has happened. Needless to say, ÖRT still wasn’t in stock and probably wont be for another month. I’ve given up on that by now. OBVIOUSLY, I’m not happy with not being able to finish this project. It has been two or three years now and I still haven’t completed the interior design here.

I wont deny that there were a couple of problems. Dang. What a surprise. For one, the shelves of the BENNO DVD stand only had two out of four suspension sockets drilled. I don’t feel like elaborating on the subject because it’s just too boring. Suffice to say it will take some work before it works as intended. Maybe I should have a chat with IKEA tomorrow and see what they say. Sigh …

At least I’m seeing progress.
