Another week another practical way to use WAP. The (Yet) Another Bittorrent Client (ABC) does already have a script to communicate via WAP in the form of PHP-4-ABC and the built in Web Interface Service. However, due to limitations of my particular wireless device and certain validation problems with the code I have been unable to get it to work. Having the bar ( | ) in a href for example is a no go and thus it had to be replaced by a dash ( - ) .. which is later whisked away by our old friend the str_replace() function.
The PHP-4-ABC is a wonderful script, but the concept to use the same code base for both html and wml output seems a tad too complicated. It might work if you really want it to. Splitting the code however enables much more radical changes.
So, the project of the day was to take the code that was available and mold it to suit my needs. Still a few small things to correct and some code that could need smartening up but as far as I am concerned it’s a 100% success.
Even if this BT client has got semi-advanced scheduling rules, it can be productive to log on and check up on it once in a while. Sometimes torrents can freeze at very low download speeds and the best way to deal with that is still human judgement. This is one feature that will certainly make me feel more relaxed when away from the workstation.
