Spray DSL betrayal

According to the new rules of conduct, the asshats at Spray have reformed their DSL package. They now offer an additional DSL-2000 service which is obviously 2 Mbit downstream (but still 0.4-0.5 Mbit upstream). This was a pleasant surprise that lasted for about two minutes until I took a good look at the new fine print. Spray has decided to impose a 25/25 GB / month bandwidth limit to both this new service and to the “new” DSL-500 service. The old service arrangement will cease to exist on the 14th of July and existing customers will be cattle-prodded into the new deal as far as I understand it.

Obviously this is not acceptable, yet the first item on my agenda will be to do nothing. I’m not backing off that easily. It remains to be seen if the bandwidth clause will be acted upon. Recent information says no. At least not at first. And by the time they try to use it, they will most likely have been run over by pissed users like myself. Maybe they’re bluffing. I’m gonna stand my ground and see. If they try to go after me they will see what kind of person I really am. Ohh, ahh, the anticipation of conflict brings meaning to my life again. And is has been so long since … so go ahead and try it you dickheads …

As for my bandwidth usage I am more or less able to max the new quota out in just one week given that I find useful stuff to download of course. Generally, I use up between 40 and 80 GB downstream each month. Computer is more or less left on 24/7.
At any rate, I will maximize my bandwidth usage during the next two weeks, bringing it up to the theoretical maximum. That’ll show them what I think of their new agreement.

Historically speaking, it is not the first time Spray has broken customer agreements and screwed the users. I vividly remember the semi-flatrate modem deal they had going a couple of years ago. It is obvious that little has changed in policy.

EDIT: Spray has clarified the rules and the limit is only applicable for the new DSL-2000 service. Too bad for them. Who is gonna want to buy a 2 Mbit service with that kind of crazy limitation. At least I can go on as before.
