Yeah I kind of noticed that too in the corner of my eye but chose to ignore it. I'm hopelessly tired of the whole thing. And still I've only been following it on the evening news. But I have a couple of reflections on the event since you brought it up.

Hype: Is that an official or a fan site? It looks official by the content but anyway I think they need a new webmaster. Seriously. One that can bring more stature to the design. And less of a football club feeling to it. Anyway, I'm amazed at how hyped up this thing is. And how unsound that is. Wow, I'm starting to enjoy the tranquility of swedish elections (before they too transform into this kind of funfair, while they probably will in time). One party wins, one guy gets a handful of flowers and the next day it's all back to doing your job and stop fannying about. I don't get point of this cultivating, revelling and spiting. It can amount to no good in the end.
Unfortunately there are no corresponding sites like this in Sweden. Even voting for people and not parties is a new thing here. But I can provide you with links to the two major parties and you can probably see that the layout and content is more ... cold, to the point and dispassionate:
http://www.socialdemokrater...
http://www.moderat.se/

Clarity: Bottom line, and what you want to know, would I have wanted Kerry to win and am I pissed ... yes. At least given the choice of only those two candidates and those two parties. His attitude towards science and his lack of religious rhetoric speaks for itself.
BUT, lets be honest here. And go back in time to when Bill Clinton was president. I know many liberals have been longing for those sunny days ... but all I see is a pitch black sky. I just remembered how I used to nag, bitch and moan over Clinton's policies. He bombed civilians on a whim, initiated PR military campaigns, torpedoed the WTO Seattle conference .. the list goes on. And that is after all one of the best and brightest your system can produce on the liberal side.
Bottom line, the problem is beyond any one man, woman or party. It resides in your very system and is a startling, if not new, discovery. In that sense, both Bush and Kerry are irrelevant. Both are products of, serving, and fishing votes from, a system that went awry a long time ago.
Examining US foreign policy dating back to the mid-1800s gives a more than chilling account .. a steadfast tradition and an attitude of moral superiority that makes me sick. It's good thing most nations aren't as fastidiously nationalistic as you are .. or they would come after you with everything they've got .. even to repay 150 year old debts.

Apart from basking I've also squeezed in these two documentaries, which I think speak for themselves in this context ---

Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara:
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt...

Control Room:
