Took the bike out after about three or four months of cold storage. If that isn’t a sign of the times I don’t know what is.
The bitter truth is that some sort of renovation is now all but inevitable. I’ve been using this bike for the last six years or so, more or less daily and it shows. Despite the obvious punctures, trashed tyres, brake pads and a broken chain, the gear mechanism is now starting to give way. Cogs are missing and it the entire system looks and feels anything but tuned. The latter can be fixed of course but it seems I have reached a point where I will actually have to buy some real spare parts (as in expensive and beyond my amateur capacity to fix mountain bikes) and do some real work.
Something to think about. It’s also a reminder of how time flies. It seems like only yesterday. Hah. Sometimes material things can have quite a spell on you and provide an unsettling bridge to the past.
