I’m out of caffeine again. And I have done very little to find a new cheaper source, an alternative way to ingest it or an altogether different substance. So I guess I’ll be back at that blasted pharmacy first thing next week.
I spent a considerable time documenting the caffeine story here.
Since then, NG Magazine has run an issue on caffeine from a global perspective. Interesting reading actually. It turns out that caffeine in one form or another is one of the most common stimulants on the planet, and used in virtually all cultures. But the most decrepit use remains that which is hidden in energy drinks and forced on people as part of some perverted scheme to make them work longer and harder. You should see what kind of office cults have formed around coffee and later energy drinks. For some, Red Bull and the likes were a gift from the heavens in a culture where work is more and more stressed out and people are measured, socially and morally based on how much overtime they can do.
Kind of makes my use of caffeine as a lipolytic substance look rather dull.
