I know I’ve been rambling on and defending low-price food stores, like LIDL. But after having bought a bad batch of eggs (LIDL), presumably expired and “re-issued”, I will be cutting back on at least animal products with short expiry dates (and that are known to cause sickness if not handled properly). Milk will be [...]

Already had to mow the lawn a second time. Which is a lot since there has been virtually no rain and I’ve applied no fertilizer yet. But I’m gonna do it by the book this year. It’s going to be a looong season.
The spring catalogue from ITAB is out. The best outdoor store in Sweden just keeps getting better.
This year they have concentrated on solidifying their assortment with a completely redone set of fleece jackets. New products include the gaiters (below).
Right, so I’m still looking for a job. Anything really as long as it doesn’t involve too much people or any sort of care (of people). No luck so far.
But I came across something interesting. Not a job opportunity per se but a clear case of discrimination. As is probably apparent I have considerable experience [...]
So I got this letter from Egmont Publishing today. Some Swedish publishing firm which name I recognize vaguely from gaming magazines and gaming consoles. Anyway, it starts out saying “Congratulations! You’re about to turn 25 …” and goes on to say “we have this new cool magazine for MEN, please accept this discounted subscription.”
So what [...]
The Sorrows of Empire. Chalmers Johnson.
Since September 2001, the United States has “undergone a transformation from republic to empire that may well prove irreversible,” writes Chalmers Johnson. Unlike past global powers, however, America has built an empire of bases rather than colonies, creating in the process a government that is obsessed with maintaining absolute military [...]
Take this! An XML-XSL-PHP representation of Azureus. Using the built-in XML export and a long series of boring steps. Doesn’t really update but it is proof of concept.
On a side note, I really don’t like XSL. I hope that damned transformation code doesn’t spread.
I re-wrote the entire thing in a very simple manner. More features may come. Bottom line is that AMIP now injects the filenames into a mysql table via a PHP script. As opposed to saving them to a flat file (and only holding the last one).
So now I can have a “retro playlist” of recently [...]
Replaced both of the flat frying pans … again. Lets see how far they’ll go this time. Apparently teflon doesn’t take kindly to skillet bread and other types of abuse. But now I know.
Had to cave in and bring out the old mulcher mower. No one else around here has mowed their lawns yet, but I figure it’s just laziness. As long as it grows, it can be cut. Obviously, taking care not to cut too deep is even more important in the spring, but when considering the [...]
