3000 photos and counting

I just realized I passed 3000 digital photographs with my A80. Mostly of creepy critters and moss, but nevertheless 3000 photos. Interestingly enough, I haven’t saved more than 10% and as for the number of decent shots, who knows.

I also feel I haven’t mastered the camera yet, which is a little lazy I suppose .. the point is that I don’t think that the camera is the limiting factor yet, rather the photographer. Except for extreme macro shots of course, but no camera can do that anyway without some sort of special macro lens.

Today for example I learned that Depth of field matters when you want to blur the background on for example macro shots. Increasing focal length also decreases depth of field (the range of sharp focus). A zoomed image is thus better than a wide-angle picture. The shorter depth of field is helpful because the background becomes less distracting. Funny that I didn’t get that before.
