Andromeda

I was just watching episodes from the last pitiful season of the sci-fi series Andromeda and wondering if I could get all that time back. You kind of hang on, just thinking it will pick up. Just one more episode. It’s bound to pick up. But alas it never did. Amazing really that this sort [...]

Hyacinthus orientalis

So, it’s mostly moss …

What is the season without the fragrance of Hyacinthus orientalis? Now that is the holidays in a nutshell for me. A smell. A mere shadow of a memory of times past.

TDK DVD+R 8x

I’ve certainly lowered the bar when it comes to storage media. No more Verbatim per mail order. No more fiddling around with comparisons. The last couple of times I’ve just been picking up spindles at my local electronics outlet. Plain and simple. Right now I’m using TDK discs from the same place. Still, I’m curious, [...]

Apples and Oranges

I bet you’ve never heard that before. Ok, so you probably have. I don’t claim to be novel but I do dislike Apple and their products so much that I’d thought I’d share my not so novel hatred of the Macintosh and iPod manufacturer. In a way it’s much like my disdain for the United [...]

Christmas folly

Not a single xmas present, either way. Now that was a big step forward. No queer stuff. No sponsoring of commercial traditions. No cuddling of nationalism and traditions.
Instead of wasting your Xmas, go for a walk. Marvel at the absence of people. Or watch the last few episodes of ReGenesis. Fantastic series btw. Hope to [...]

Nucleus 3.3 CVS

I’ve been frantically trying to cope with the difficulties of upgrading my core modded version of 3.15 to 3.3CVS. The problem was that I had done my own separation of email and URL fields for comments. And better I might say than what they later committed to CVS. But I have to move on and [...]

Narnia

Sure enough. Another hatchet job by Disney. Or is it just that I was so thrown back by the fact that it is after all a kiddie movie. Or perhaps having to share the cinema with hordes of snivelling and popcorn-munching children.
Amazing special effects. Yet a wardrobe from the local seamstress or something. I did [...]

Hand mixer

About time. A new 350W (Cucina HR1560) mixer to replace the old 150W machine, incidentally also a Philips. A really indispensable tool that acts on the front line of kitchen utensils.
For someone who doesn’t really buy pastries and makes virtually everything himself (for paranoid health reasons and general stinginess) one does need real equipment.

Simple Bread - Chapati

Skillet bread of the year. Can’t get any simpler. I mean why bother. If it’s good enough for millions of Indians, it’s good enough for me. Graham (whole wheat or whatever) flour, wheat flour, salt, water, oil. And that is still in its most complex variations. Plus the kneading of course, feels like you’re actually [...]

Massive Spam Attacks

Battleangel was hit by over 400 spam comments this morning within a few hours before I had a chance to update the manual blacklist and put an end to it. That is a new record. Obviously they were all caught by the Comment Control moderation plugin. Deleting them can be done in one swift operation, [...]
