Due to unforeseen snags with the new case I bought, I had to finally get a controller card. Longer cables would be sufficed but I thought it was time to put my Pioneer Slot-in DVD back into action. With three PATA harddrives and a DVD writer I’ve been short on PATA slots on the mainboard for quite some time. This was as good a time as any to resolve the issue. Model: Promise Ultra133 TX2 (non-raid HBA)
The next thing to give will probably be the PSU, considering it will have to power three extra 120mm fans and one DVD. Not much, but with my luck I bet it will tip the balance.
Also on order: Globlink GKM-700 2.4GHz keyboard (for the MediaPC as my current junkyard 27MHz keyboard is out of range and slurps battery, plus it’s ugly) and a Kingston Datatraveler I 512MB USB2 stick (on sale, couldn’t resist, versatile, everyone else seems to have one). Plus a pair of 100 cm rounded UDMA133 cables just in case.

What still remains is to find an mp3 player that I can live with. At a price that I can live with.
The keyboard was a big step up, yet at a fair price, from the old model. Smaller, lighter and with a wireless range that ought to be enough for any living room. And actually, I found the trackball, while a tad small and hence flimsy, easier to use than my other wireless trackball from Logitech. Also, the battery saving mode seems promising. Still I wouldn’t have minded 2x AA batteries instead of 2x AAA.
