Leechings

I made a new category, tentatively called “Leechings.” For those really important notes on what is really happening on the grass root level in the P2P world. Namely what people (that is I) are downloading. Exclamations, recommendations, plugs, jeering about damaged files and such.

I traditionally felt this would ruin the format of the journal. But since downloading is such a big, and inseparable, part of who I am it seemed right somehow to add this to the weekly rambling. Just to have a reason and a place to casually make note of notable P2P discoveries that don’t quite fit elsewhere and aren’t news per se and also wont have to fit in some contrived manner.

Some people write about their pets, kids or sports. I have my downloading. It’s not as close and personal but it is the best that I can do. So here I am trying to be a little more up close and personal.

Sozaijiten

One of the most pleasant discoveries in the last couple of months has got to be the Sozaijiten photo stock. I’m now about halfway through getting the image collection. An ever-growing collection that as best I can tell has reached 166 discs at the time of writing this. Very inspirational photos, for the most part, that make great desktop wallpapers as well as serve as food for thought for any photographer. And even though you’ll most likely never use the images for anything unless you run a printing house, they’re a blast to collect.

Sozaijiten discs are tricky to find to say the least. Two trackers that regularly offer them however are Oink and BitMe. Since both are not open to the public, I can’t really do more than to point people in the general direction. There is no quick fix to get all of them in one neat swoop.

And a note to people who make these archives available, I salute you naturally, but I must note how useless it is to download the hybrid cd iso file when all I only need the hi-res JPEG files. JPEG files = 120 MB typically. ISO = 400-500MB typically. Please think of all the overworked electrons.
