Upgrades

I was looking over Silent Nation and decided it was finally time to move to Wordpress 2. Just because I wanted some stupid “now reading” book plugin. Ouch. The biggest hurdle so far was Gallery2 which also required an upgrade. Originally I had used Fantastico to install the damn thing so I hadn’t a clue [...]

Lawn Season

The reel mower had its seasonal debut and produced surprisingly good results given the burgeoning moss problem and the debris that is always present after the winter. Debris like deer and rabbit droppings (what you get for feeding the blighters), pine cones and god knows what else that can get stuck in the reel. Also, [...]

Economy of economy

One thing that always strikes me as odd whenever I’m at the university library is why there are always so many students of economics loitering. Loud and arrogant as they are, apart from their demeanor one must also wonder what sort of skew society we have shaped for ourselves where economists and jurists are two [...]

PHP complications

I’ve had a problem with PHP all day that I haven’t been able to track down. “Fancy” Permalinks have been disabled for the time being. Also, some pages aren’t included properly. I don’t think it’s related to phpsuexec per se though.

Thieves in the Night

I noted that so far, 100% of the political propaganda (for the September parliamentary election) that has come my way had a covert or semi-covert neoliberal taint. The Liberal Jugend infiltrated the local university and the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise set up yet another bogus front organization to spread their libellous statements and send unsolicited [...]

IKEA

Spent the better part of the day at IKEA. It never gets old. Or actually it kind of did on this particular occasion. After a couple of years, you’ve basically gotten all the basics in terms of utensils and rudimentary furniture. I was looking for a bathroom wall cabinet but had a bad case of [...]

PHPSuexec and Nucleus

My hosting company just turned on phpsuexec this morning, much to my dismay. See this guide on how to re-enable your Nucleus blog with fancy urls. Basically the htaccess ForceType directive needs to be changed to SetHandler or you will get 500 Internal Server errors.

Gardening Season

Big plans for this year. Big plans indeed. We’ll see if they’ll get implemented.

Food Chains

It is often with an uneasy ambivalence that I approach new foods and food culture. But when you have a few days off, like around Easter, and get into the spirit of things, I at least try to broaden my horizons and indulge myself a little. Even if it is uphill all the way to [...]

Water and Blood

It is uncomfortable to talk of oneself for sure. Yet I had an even more uncomfortable encounter two weeks ago and it still lingers somewhat. And it got me thinking. An old cliché has it that “blood is thicker than water” right, but that is something that I cannot subscribe to. Bottom line, I met [...]
