I was looking over Silent Nation and decided it was finally time to move to Wordpress 2. Just because I wanted some stupid “now reading” book plugin. Ouch. The biggest hurdle so far was Gallery2 which also required an upgrade. Originally I had used Fantastico to install the damn thing so I hadn’t a clue how many files were actually involved. Or how many files had become obsolete between Gallery 2.0 and 2.1. Damn. Gallery 2.1.1a Full is 27.8 MB and 4613 files unpacked. The pre-installer thing didn’t work of course. And Fantastico is pretty much a one-time thing if you’ve modified files, plus it is never up to date. That is just … great. The upgrade script also had some blurb about 1200-something files that should be removed via a shell script that I cannot run anyway. Way to go Gallery2! Specifically, what is with those locale and po folders anyway? With EVERY module. If people want more languages they can damn well get it themselves. It shouldn’t even be shipped with a standard product. At the very least you shouldn’t get complaints from the upgrade script for having removed the folders.
Lifestream: Upgraded to Wordpress 2.5. Better late than never.
