ReGenesis Season Two

The second season of ReGenesis just wrapped up. One ought to say something about it since I have thoroughly enjoyed it and consider it to be one of the best shows on TV at the moment. First and foremost I enjoyed the outright conspiracies of season two. On top of the usual twists and clever ways to spin science and bring social and ethical problems to light. By conspiracies I’m referring to the plots involving Xylella fastidiosa and Encephalitis lethargica and the US government. That sort of scriptwriting really hits home with me for obvious reasons. And it captures, perhaps unwittingly, how the US uses and abuses science to suit its every whim. Offering impressive funding in absolute numbers, but at the same time setting political goals that make recipients of that funding indentured servants. In both of the above cases, the scriptwriters have done their homework. Both in the consistent terrorism and slander directed at Cuba over the last decades and in the willingness to experiment on soldiers and civilians to create a convenient casus belli and get around proper medical procedure. Kudos for bringing in the US military inoculation twist as well.
