NTFS Revisited

So, as I noted a while back, I had to convert to NTFS. No big deal really. But I held off on the boot drive for various reasons. Mostly because it required booting to a prompt or batching (botching?) the whole operation with Partition Magic. And before I could do anything, I had to enlarge the C: partition to encompass the file name conversion safely.

Time sure flies. I remember starting out with a C: partition few years ago that was maybe 2-3 GB. Recently, I had it set at 6 GB. Now I set it to 10 GB. I don’t know if it’s optimal, but running the resize, move, resize batch with Partition Magic takes hours to complete so why take a chance.

The thing that baffled me was that the NTFS conversion seems to have damaged config files for several applications. Zone Alarm had its settings zapped for instance and FlashFXP lost its registration data. Perhaps it’s something with the “Documents and Settings” folders or wherever they store this. Those small snags notwithstanding, I believe the conversion went fairly well.
