Eragon

What a fantastic disappointment that turned out to be.

And here I was, thinking Eragon would be the beacon of light in a miserable season completely devoid of intelligent life in the cinema. About the only good news is that Eragon makes last year’s Narnia seem like less of an embarrassment. And it does have Jeremy Irons. Everything else is just a hodgepodge of fantasy cliches, uninspired acting, an underlying childish demeanor and dialog and underwhelming special effects. So it’s a bit like watching Xena then. This should have been explicitly billed as a children’s movie. So much potential and such a waste.

On the one hand one should perhaps be grateful that the movie only runs for 104 minutes. On the other hand I get the feeling that like Kill Bill, someone is milking the franchise for more money, making sequels out of what should have been a single movie. Basically, the story doesn’t feel tight but rather drawn out and filled with inconsequential drivel.
