Vegebitions

I’ve become a pragmatic semi-vegetarian over the last six months. That is, not because of ethics but purely on a health basis and when it is practical. It took some time to build an entirely new set of recipes and procedures, and I could still use a few more for meal rotation, but overall [...]

Bike repaired

It wasn’t cheap but I think I have my mountain bike in working order again. I said I’d fix it five years ago. I said I’d fix it three years ago. But I obviously didn’t. Now I had to leave it in a repair shop, but it was worth every penny. A new cassette and [...]

Canon 860 IS defects

Had to RMA my basically brand new Canon 860 IS (SD 870IS Digital ELPH) compact camera. The problem was a vertical, bright line that appeared on screen (and photos more disturbingly). Canon support handled the return issue admirably though, sending me a pre-paid slip and clear instructions. But they only did so after I [...]

Storage components

I finally made an effort to replace the old 120 GB IBM 180GXP PATA disk of the HTPC with a 750 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA. There is no comparing the speed here. Nor the operating sound level. Plus this disk comes with a 5 year warranty. It sure took some time to clone [...]

ITAB spring 2008

A shiny new collection from ITAB (branding themselves as fritidsklader.se these days). There may be some quibbling over sizes yet, but overall I’m very pleased with the quality. Simple and efficient at remarkable prices. Sure, Haglöfs or Fjällräven it ain’t, but it is pretty damn close. The problem isn’t so much the clothes themselves as [...]

Lifestream

As previously indicated, and as is obvious from the new and smarter navigation bar / ribbon on the top of the page, I successfully scribbled together a lifestream application using simplepie. Check it out at bjornhallberg.com.

Gear

Apart from the usual ITAB order which seems to be regular as clockwork this time of year (and will be detailed in a later post), I also needed a couple of auxiliary items. First and foremost I was looking for a small bag for liquids and a rain poncho. The rest just followed by accident.
From [...]

Scrapped Coppermine

Will be moving to Picasa permanently. In anticipation of that I removed the Coppermine Gallery folder and added a redirection to Picasa. I had thought of installing Gallery2, but the core problems would remain. I’d have a major script to upgrade every other week to patch the latest security vulnerability. And uploading images would be [...]

IKEA spring 2008

I finally settled for a pair of high cabinets for the kitchen. The price was unbeatable, and I got almost what I was looking for. Close enough.

I also got a few accessories and trinkets as usual.

Unfortunately, one of the cabinets were damaged and had to be replaced. IKEA is taking care of that [...]

Windows Live Writer Improvements

I have been in contact with the development team at Microsoft and I am confident now that the most obvious pitfalls in the application will be made null and void shortly. Most notably, the escaping / encoding for non-ASCII characters in XHTML mode will be changed so that it only escapes special chars like ampersand [...]
