Tool sale

Who can resist a sale, right? Anyway, I picked up a few toys since a local store was dropping Black & Decker from the inventory. B&D are some of the most overpriced tools on the market, at least considering the performance (thinking mostly of battery powered devices). I got an auto-leveling laser w/ stud sensor and a new glue gun. But I’ll have you know I did resist buying a reciprocating saw and another cordless drill. So I’m not completely unreasonable.

On a side note, lasers are tricky in that they usually just do one thing. This model for instance is auto-leveling. I believe this is when you most need a guiding laser line. But that also means that it doesn’t work for any other angle. B&D of course has about a million different leveling lasers for various uses and angles.

Also, I picked up the biggest angle grinder I could find. Granted, even at 50% sale you can find cheaper brands for 230mm grinders. Brands that even offer a few extra watts of power (2300W or 2200W versus the B&D’s 2000W). But I figured B&D knew what they were doing. Grinders are so much more than just raw power. Firstly, you want build quality that will last and stand up to abuse and particle contamination. Second, you don’t want a machine that vibrates too much or has an unreliable soft start.

Anyway, I plan to use this new grinder mainly for masonry. Cutting garden tiles and such. Now all I have to do is find a good supplier of cheap but reliable diamond blades.
