Having not a damn thing to do, I decided, perhaps against my better judgement, to resurrect my old World of Warcraft account. There was this one-time 10-day Wrath of the Grind King trial offer that got me curious. Unfortunately there was a limit that prevented players from advancing beyond level 70, and I was frankly tired of my Hunter main anyway, so I took the opportunity to level a Death Knight from 55 up to 68 instead. In my defence, I ought to have been able to hit 70 with time to spare in a 10-day period, but I spent the first two days loitering.
I noted before that WoW was one of the most anti-climatic gaming experiences I’ve had. And while it was fun to try a new class that could solo away like the Duracell bunny with blood healing abilities, reality soon set in. I mean, you leave the Death Knight starting zone at level 58 with some of the hottest gear you’ll ever see in the game. At least some of the hottest gear I’ve ever seen, save for that time I tried out the Tournament Test Realm. And the gear looks equally impressive. So at level 70+ when you’re more or less forced to replace your blue items with green quest rewards you’ll go back to looking like a clown. And you loose the sense of superiority and overpowerment that you had when starting out. I managed to race through Outland without replacing a single item, but I think that is about it. Queue to anti-climactic finale.
