UPS Assistant

Almost a year ago I bought a bargain UPS (Mustek Powermust 1000 USB) unit that frankly has been collecting dust ever since. One of the reasons for this being the dismal software that came with the unit. I believe it was called Winpower and was written i JAVA. I don’t even think I could get it to work but I could have been that I was just appalled by the programming language.

Well, enter UPS Assistant

UPS Assistant is intended for monitoring of status of the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), connected to a computer through USB-port and supporting the Megatec/Centralion protocol (Ippon, Mustek, Sven, Inelt).

Not only does it work out of the box but it has a minimal memory footprint and doesn’t rely on any nonsense like .NET or JAVA. The only dodgy part is how to configure the minimum voltage value on my particular unit (which has 2 x 12V(7A)). I’m going to have to look into that, but UPS Assistant seems to do the job nevertheless.
