As predicted, PHP 5.2.9 coupled with Libxml2 2.7.3 fixes the bracket issue.
However, for people like myself that are hosted collectively on a platform that uses Cpanel, the wait has only just begun. I contacted my host the day after 5.2.9 was released, eager to get it resolved, but I was hit with the stark reality of shared hosting. Prudently perhaps, my hosting company only runs stable final releases of Cpanel. And they are frighteningly few and far apart. It usually takes weeks to even add support for a new PHP release, and months for a stable release to emerge. Support has now been added since March 3 and I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the Cpanel devs are aiming for a rapid release, even though there already was a major new release in early January. History would dictate that we wouldn’t normally see a new final release until summer but that is obviously just unacceptable.
