Boots

My current hiking boot is on its last legs. Looking back through the blog I can see that I bought this boot a little over six years ago. It’s Garmont Syncro GTX something. A mid-range and a somewhat lower boot for general applications. About the first thing I did with it was to step into [...]

Belts

Budget Tac-Safe belt. Velcro inside.

Overall a good belt for the money I guess. Extremely rigid, but also extremely bulky. Unsure of the quality of the plastic lock. Complicated adjustment of belt length obviously.
Belts are hopeless in a way. I just can’t seem to find a belt that will go with all applications. A normal belt, [...]

Elastoplast

I am currently trying out a new sticking plaster for proactively taping heels and soles of feet before long hikes. Per recommendation I had the pharmacy bring in elastoplast. This plaster is rougher, thicker and more elastic, which makes fitting it considerably easier.
As noted, for some reason, none of the pharmacies I checked in [...]

ITAB spring 2008

A shiny new collection from ITAB (branding themselves as fritidsklader.se these days). There may be some quibbling over sizes yet, but overall I’m very pleased with the quality. Simple and efficient at remarkable prices. Sure, Haglöfs or Fjällräven it ain’t, but it is pretty damn close. The problem isn’t so much the clothes themselves as [...]

Gear

Apart from the usual ITAB order which seems to be regular as clockwork this time of year (and will be detailed in a later post), I also needed a couple of auxiliary items. First and foremost I was looking for a small bag for liquids and a rain poncho. The rest just followed by accident.
From [...]

ITAB Winter 2007

I actually forewent any real winter apparel upgrades this year. The weather for these last two winters has been perplexing and so I wait for the spring collection which I think will be more useful overall.

Hair gloves

I found an online retailer within Europe (Speedycom) that could supply hair gloves in both leather and neoprene. I had a couple of complaints, yes I admit the old glove had gotten a little disgusting. Problem fixed.
Really pleased with the neoprene glove so far. It’s cheaper, lighter, more flexible and it doesn’t require any [...]

ITAB spring 2007

Not much new from ITAB this year. I took a chance with the Viking Apollo XCR.

It turned out that these multi-sport / walking shoes were just about some of the worst shoes I’ve ever bought. And at the same time some of the best. For one, I’ve never had a pair of boots [...]

Walking Poles

This is something I’ve been meaning to do for some time. But was afraid to since it seemed a little effeminate. Not to mention how the senior citizenry has spoiled the idea. Yeah, I know, I’m not as progressive as I like to pretend. Well, you just have to conquer your fears sooner or later [...]

ITAB

I got the new ITAB catalogue the other day and true to form I keep stocking up on good, sturdy apparels. A new pair of Traveller shorts for instance because my old khaki shorts were the wrong size. Cargo pants, another first. A cap made of breathing high-tech fabric and a pair of trail running [...]
