Fisherman’s Friend

Random observation: Still the best lozenge on the market. What I find a bit sad though is the way they’ve jumped on the artificial sweetener bandwagon with some of the newer flavours.

Exido Sandwich Maker

Something new for the kitchen. Just to make a note of it. I managed to find the Exido sandwich maker on sale at a bargain price. 135 SEK. I’ve been looking for a good sandwich maker for some time so considering the price and Exido’s stunning test results in a recent test for Swedish interior [...]

Food Chains

It is often with an uneasy ambivalence that I approach new foods and food culture. But when you have a few days off, like around Easter, and get into the spirit of things, I at least try to broaden my horizons and indulge myself a little. Even if it is uphill all the way to [...]

Kidney Beans

A leap of faith for sure. I have a real aversion towards beans and peas and such. But served with a homemade Mexican seasoning mix, I suppose one can make an exception. Also, this means no more buying of seasoning mixes. What a fraud.

Sucralose

I don’t know about the safety of Sucralose, which was only approved in the European Union as late as 2004, but from a taste bud perspective it sure is quite awful. Normally I would be all for low-carb food, chlorocarbon or not, but this really fails to impress. Especially since manufacturers go overboard and add [...]

Hand mixer

About time. A new 350W (Cucina HR1560) mixer to replace the old 150W machine, incidentally also a Philips. A really indispensable tool that acts on the front line of kitchen utensils. For someone who doesn’t really buy pastries and makes virtually everything himself (for paranoid health reasons and general stinginess) one does need real equipment.

Simple Bread – Chapati

Skillet bread of the year. Can’t get any simpler. I mean why bother. If it’s good enough for millions of Indians, it’s good enough for me. Graham (whole wheat or whatever) flour, wheat flour, salt, water, oil. And that is still in its most complex variations. Plus the kneading of course, feels like you’re actually [...]

Cheesy

So, we finally did away with our Delicard gift certificate. I don’t remember if I mentioned it before but it was a corporate xmas present for last year. But due to the crappy selection of gifts, we couldn’t bring ourselves to use it. But now it was about to expire and so we had no [...]

Not the connoisseur

Salty frizzled pork (bacon) in onion sauce with boiled unpeeled potatoes. It has always marked the turn of winter around here. It’s primitive, rural and yet so ineffably irresistible.

Cookie Press

Sometimes called a dough-gun. With discs and pastry nozzles. Does this seem like a strange thing to get? Well I just got one. Seemed like an awfully cool gadget to have around, even if I am more of a muffin person myself. Also it reminded me of those dispenser guns you use for silicon construction [...]
