Strawberries

The season is almost over but I believe there is one more picking to be had still. Not bad considering I only have one out of three patches producing at full capacity.

That Garden Trimmer

I can’t say that I’ve had much success with garden trimmers so far. The story so far goes something like this: I spontaneously acquired a cordless Black&Decker GLC2500. It didn’t work since the battery capacity was way too low. Unlike the price which was quite high. So I returned it. I then bought a [...]

Garden tools

A local supermarket had a 50% sale on garden utilities, including Gardena garden tools and irrigation systems. It’s easy to get carried away isn’t it.

Hand Truck

The best investment ever when it comes to moving bulky / heavy potted plants around the garden or into winter storage. I should have thought about that a long time ago, especially now that one get a decent model for less than 300 SEK. I used to have this older “brick and mortar” hand truck [...]

Harvest

Backyard

Euphorbia pulcherrima + Brugmansia. The towering and majestic brugmansia specimen is the pride of the backyard this year.

Black & Decker GL 701

So the last trimmer didn’t really work. I decided to go back to an updated version a corded trimmer instead and the 550W Black & Decker GL 701 QS which is a “faux petrol / brush cutter” type model. I thought about actual petrol a couple of times but decided again that it would be [...]

Last in line

The last strawberry has been picked and the last potato has been unearthed. Produce was considerably lower than last year for some reason. Not that it’s such a big deal when you’re growing for fun on an amateur level. But you’d think that partial crop rotation (potatoes for strawberries) would have been enough.
Well, one thing [...]

Brugmansia

The weather has been stormy but so far the Brugmansia has been doing well. I did remove some excessive plant material and pot though just to be on the safe side. Keeping these plants safe for the winter has been a big problem so far, so I’ll try to keep one or two in room [...]

Yponomeuta

Great year for Yponomeuta sp. (small ermine moths). Not so great a year for the fruit trees. Simply amazing creatures when it comes to defoliations. Luckily I caught the little blighters in time, or so I’d like to believe. I’m somewhat puzzled that the larvae managed to survive the relatively harsh winter though. With the [...]
