King Kong Addendum

Wired seems to think the movie was way long. I thought it was OK. Plus of course they deplore the meddling with a classic movie. Well, I never saw the original and I’m not a romantic fan of originals. Not when they are that old at least. I just can’t stand bad special effects and [...]

Ravenous

So I picked up Ravenous the other day. Trust BitTorrent and P2P to find rare horror gems eh. Quite a decent movie nevertheless with an apt allegory that I thought I’d mention. I mean, being on such friendly terms with the US and everything.

Richard von Busack - The evangelizing head cannibal is a military officer [...]

Land of the Dead

So, basically, for reasons unknown, the movie never premiered at a cinema near me. Practically the only movie not to do so from the summer line up. So once again, the movie business shouldn’t be too surprised to find that I eventually got the XVID DVD-RIP instead because I was tired of waiting. Now this [...]

Hitchhiker’s Guide

First, it took months for it to reach Sweden and then my local cinema decided not to open the feature as planned but rather wait a couple of weeks. After that you just don’t pay for a movie. You download it. Thankfully Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was released as a dvd rip a few [...]

The Island

Actually took a frivolous visit to the cinema last week and saw The Island. Kind of worked for me. The quartet of dystopian venues in the form of (1) bio-ethics, (2) private security companies, (3) ruthless and unaccountable corporations and (4) the youth and beauty cult. But I guess that if one isn’t terribly entertained [...]

Lost

Having just sat through the first season I can finally understand all the hoopla this series has generated. It does have something for everyone. Take the supernatural elements for instance which is arguably what is appealing to me.
The series will continue with season two on September 21.

Torrents: Road to Avonlea

Torrent of the week for sure. Road.to.Avonlea.S01.DVDRip.XviD-aAF (Pirate Bay). If that doesn’t bring back memories I don’t know what will.

Batman Begins

Easily one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. And the Batman and indeed comic book movie we’ve all been waiting for. For as long as I can remember.
What I particularly like about Batman Begins is the contemplative issues that arise throughout the movies. Like crime and punishment. Revenge. Hatred. Vigilantism. Ideas [...]

Sci-fi Premieres

Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica … what a weekend. And what a lineup for Sci-fi Friday.
I guess there is still hope after Richard Dean Anderson.
One thing that has been bothering me increasingly is the projected image of the US that is present in both SG-1 and to some extent Atlantis. I am irked [...]

Not So Fantastic Four

Dismal acting, especially by Alba who just feels dead wrong for the part. Silly, and nervously humorous but a good summer super hero movie. Not a new hallmark for Marvel though. Just too superficial. The reviewers say it best …
“An overinflated B-movie with no grace, no subtext, no wit, and featuring beefcake/cheesecake actors who look [...]
